İstanbul-born Deniz Boran, 1st Prize winner of the 5th International Leyla Gencer Voice Competition in August 2008, graduated from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University State Conservatory Department of Vocal Arts in 2004. During her studies, she performed in several university opera productions, staged by Doç.Yekta Kara, and many concerts. After her graduation, she became a Research Assistant in the Vocal Arts Department and spent a year working with Prof. Mesut İktu.
In December 2005, Deniz Boran became a soloist of the İstanbul State Opera and Ballet while still continuing her studies with soprano Payam Koryak.
Over both the past two seasons of the İstanbul State Opera Ms. Boran performed the Queen of the Night in Mozart's "Die Zauberflöte" and, over the most recent season, the soprano solo in Orff's "Carmina Burana", Rosina in Paisiello's "Il barbiere di Siviglia" and Yvette in Puccini's "La rondine". She also sang Leila as a guest in the İstanbul City Theatre’s production of a musical based on a Turkish traditional love story, "Leyla ile Mecnun".
During her studies, her roles in Mozart operas staged at the university, were Barbarina in "Le nozze di Figaro"(May 2003) and the Second Boy in "Die Zauberflöte"(May 2002). She also participated in the world premieres of works by two leading Turkish composers; the symphonic poem "Şenlikname" (June 1998) by İlhan Usmanbaş and the musical "Leyla ile Mecnun" (February 2007) by Yalçın Tura.
In December 2007, she was selected as a young talent to sing in the 10th annual memorial concert for the Turkish soprano Zehra Yıldız.
