
Tenor Ho-Chul Lee, a native of Korea, has been a member of the Opera Studio of the Bavarian State Opera since the 2008/2009 season. In May and June 2009 he is appearing as Malcolm at the Staatstheater Mannheim and in September 2009 the young artist will join the ensemble in Mannheim.
Engagements in recent years include his appearance as Tamino and Turiddu at the Korean National Theater. He also was heard as Tamino with Hanse University Opera at the Gwachun Art Center and as Normanno (Lucia de Lammermoor) at the Seoul Arts Center, and sang Ferrando at the Leiszhalle Hamburg in 2005. At the Bavarian State Opera he has been heard as Parpignol (La Boheme) and Pacuvio (La Pietra di Paragone-Rossini), and has also appeared in Palestrina, La Traviata, Luisa Miller, to name a few. In April 2009 he appeared as Ferrando in a the opera studio production of Cosi Fan Tutte at the Cuvilles Theater in Munich.
Ho Chul Lee studied at the University of Seoul and at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hamburg and has been the recipient of many prizes and awards. In recent years he was a finalist in the Concourso International de canto Julian Gayarre, Concours International d’art Lyrique de Strasbourg, the Ferrucio Tagliavini Competition in Deutschlandsberg, and a 2nd prize winner of the Elise Meyer Stiftung in Hamburg. The young tenor also has the distinction of being chosen as „Leading Musician for the 21 Century“ and „Tenor of the Year“ by the Korean Broadcasting System in 2004.
