Turkish lyric baritone Caner Akgün, 29, studied at the Ankara State Conservatory and graduated in 2008. Since completing his studies in Ankara he has been a member of the Istanbul State Opera where he has been heard since the 2007/8 season as Baron Douphol, Dancairo (Carmen), Dottore Malatesta (Don Pasquale), Il Conte di Almaviva (Le Nozze di Figaro), Marcello (La Boheme), and Figaro (Il Barbiere di Siviglia).
So far during the 2010/11 season the young baritone has appeared at the Istanbul State Opera as Figaro (Il Barbiere di Siviglia) and Conte Almaviva in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro. He will also be heard this season as Dottore Malatesta in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale. Mr. Akgün is also the recipient of many prizes and awards including 2nd Prize at the Siemens Opera Competition in 2007, 2nd Prize at the Young Opera Singer Competition of Turkey in 2008, and 3rd Prize in 2006. The artist has also participated in masterclasses and studied at the Salzburg Mozarteum in summer of 2008.
